Yoga - The 7 chakras and their significance:
We
all must have heard of the Chakras. This term is often used in an environment
where Yoga is practiced. But not many are aware of the meaning of this term.
Chakras are considered to be the energy points or nodes in the human body. This
is a belief by followers of Hinduism. These are not present in us, physically
but it is subtly. These are present in Nadis or channels in which exits the
subtle life force. The word ‘Chakra’ has been derived from a Sanskrit word
meaning wheel, but with respect to the context it means whirlpool.
Our
body basically consists of 7 chakras.
1.Muladhara
2.Swadhisthana
3.Manipura
4.Anahata
5.Vishuddha
6.Ajna
7.Sahasrara/
Brahmarandra
Location
of the Chakras
Muladhara
is located at the perineum or the gap between the anal outlet and the genital
organ. Swadhisthana is located just above the genital organ. Manipura is
located right below the navel. Anahata is present beneath the point where the
rib cage meets. Vishuddha is the point
at the pit of the throat. Ajna is located at the point in the middle of the
eyebrows. Sahasrara is located on the top of the head.
Chakras
can not only affect physical factors but also affect you spiritually. There are
kshetras, which in literal translation means residence. Kshetras are spots
where the Chakras patent. There are external kshetras called Bahya kshetra and
internal ones called Antar kshetra.
Dominance
If
your Muladhara chakra is dominant, food and sleep will dominate your life. In
case of Swadhisthana it is pleasure. If it is in Manipura, you tend to ‘do’ all
things possible. If your Chakra is dominant in Anahata, your creative bone will
make you proud. Whereas if your Vishuddha chakra is dominant, you become very
powerful. If at all your dominant chakra
is in Ajna, you will become intellectual. But if at all your energies are high
at Sahasrara then you will be extremely ecstatic. The seven chakras are seven
different levels of intensity. Spiritual path means your journey from Muladhara
to Sahasrara.
Hereby,
we end the brief explanation regarding the 7 fundamental chakras.
