Laya or Kundalini Yoga – Yoga of Awareness
Laya yoga is
also referred to as Kundalini yoga. It has been influenced by tantra
and sahkta schools of Hinduism. It has been called as the “yoga of
awareness” by yoga gurus.
It is an
ancient and a basic form of meditation. The meditation mainly focuses
on the chakras or the energy centers in the body. There are five main
centers in the spine and two in the head; laya yoga attempts to
locate them and channelize the energy with the help of meditation.
It works
towards curbing the ego and rising to the higher state of
consciousness. Meditation plays an important role and it aims in
bringing the energy into a prefect channel. Practice of pranayama and
asanas are the ways to activate the energy centers or the chakras.
The main aim
of laya yoga is to attain supreme consciousness through pranayama and
breathe control and also to control the fluctuations of mind.
