Summer is here with its pleasant mornings and scotching heat. Summer as a season has its own accolades and mango is one of the major souvenirs of summer. Yes, the king of fruits, mango has arrived and people drool for its taste and its aroma.

It is one of the most favorite fruits of people often referred to as “Super Fruit”. People go crazy over the fruit and many believe that mangoes make summer bearable! Their distinct aroma and taste has inspired poets for ages.

It is a seasonal fruit and grown only in tropics. The tree is believed to have originated in sub-Himalayan plains in Indian continent. It is said to be one of the most cultivated fruits in Eastern India, Burma and Andaman Islands. It is the national fruit of India, Pakistan, and Philippines. It is the national tree of Bangladesh. 

Taste, Aroma and Cuisine:

Its taste is juicy and sweet when ripened and the texture is mushy. It is golden yellowish orange in color when it is ripened and green when raw. There are many varieties of mangoes each with a distinct flavor and varying size. They can be consumed raw without cooking and unripe ones are made into chutneys, pickles or side dishes. Mango milkshakes, aamras, raw mango panha are popular drinks in summer.

Health benefits

It has several health benefits like:
  • It cures acidity and helps in proper digestion.
  • It contains pectin which prevents prostate cancer.
  • Mangoes are rich in iron and thus help people with anemia and it also helps to increase blood count.
  • They are rich in nutrients like Vitamin A, C, E and B6.
  • Mango is a rich source of potassium which in turn controls heart rate and blood pressure.
