Did you know gardening helps you relieve stress?

Gardening is no doubt a stress buster. There is no joy comparable to seeing the bloomed flowers of a plant that you planted and nurtured. With the world trying to create a ‘greener’ world, gardening is becoming an important hobby as well as business everywhere.

Gardening is an activity which needs patience and perseverance. A garden will not give yield immediately. It takes time. Also, in this process, we learn a lot. In fact gardening is one of the major stress busters. If you have a big garden, consider yourself lucky. It is a joy to walk around your garden and it is this place in your house that gives you serenity and peace of mind.

Gardening acts as a form of exercise as well. The squatting, the lifting of pots, running around the garden and all the exertion help you in burning some calories as well. It also helps you getting your daily dose of Vitamin D. But for majority it helps in relieving stress. Gardening is one hobby which when done with passion gives you the joy which can be seen. A garden in full bloom is a rewarding experience. This soothes down the mind and it reinforces our belief that our hard work will yield the required results. Moreover, gardening helps in improving concentration as this work needs a focused mind. In fact gardening trains you to be more focused. Gardening is an act of hope. We plant seeds and trust that they will grow. Tending to a garden is a way of stepping outside of ourselves and it helps to put things in perspective. Nurturing something outside of ourselves shifts the focus away from self and this can be valuable in times of anxiety and stress.

Planting and tending a garden is an excellent way to alleviate anxiety and create a quiet respite amidst a busy life.
