Winter Care for a Luscious Hair

Winter is here! And so are those ‘hairy’ nightmares. It’s that time of the year when you would need to take extra care of your hair. Cold winter air causes the hair to become dry and frizz, vulnerable to breakage and severe tangles. The protective oil – sebum produced by our body provides a natural moisturiser to the hair and skin; however, during winter the production comes down due to which the hair and body becomes very dry.
Preventive Hair Care Measures for Winter
It becomes utmost important to give extra nourishment and care during winter. A few preventive steps to ensure that hair is nourished during winter are
  • Condition your hair to moisturize and avoid it from getting dry and breakable.
  • Also, avoid rinsing your hair in hot water. Alternatively, cool or tepid water rinsing is beneficial.
  • Avoid shampooing your hair every day, as it strips of the natural oils from your hair and scalp and makes it dry. Instead, shampoo alternate days and ensure you use a conditioner as well.
  • Avoid the use of hair dryers, curling iron or flat iron as they make the hair even drier during winter.

Home Remedies for Hair Care:

1. Eggs:   As very rich source of proteins, eggs are very helpful in reducing dryness and repair hair damage.
Remedy: Whip egg white with 2 tablespoons of lukewarm water and apply the mixture on damp hair and scalp. Give a thorough massage for 15 min, and shampoo it with cool or tepid water. Follow this twice in a week if the hair is dry excessively.

2. Bananas: Another easily available fruit is a sure shot remedy for dry hair. Packed with high potassium and moisture content, bananas are extremely helpful in treating split ends and soften hair.
Remedy: Mix one ripe banana with 1 tablespoon of almond oil and 2 tablespoons of honey. Apply the mixture from the scalp through your hair till the tip and leave it for 30 min. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

3. Olive Oil: Rich in Vitamin E and antioxidants, olive oil helps repair the damaged hair by sealing the cuticle with enough moisture.
Remedy: Warm the olive oil a little bit and apply it to the hair and scalp. Give a thorough massage for 10 min and cover the hair with warm towel and leave it for around 30 min. Then, shampoo as usual with a conditioner. Repeat twice a week depending on the severity of the damage.

So, this winter do not fret over dry and unmanageable hair; rather, pamper your hair to some nourishment and enjoy flaunting a luscious hair.
