As a parent you would always be on the lookout for learning aids for your little kid, which are not only interesting but also makes learning easy and fun. One such device is the abacus. Abacus is one of the earliest tools used for calculations centuries ago, and adopted even before the modern numeral system came into existence.

From time immemorial abacus has been in existence and continues to be there due its simplistic feature but handy in performing basic arithmetic operations. Today, although there has been a decrease in the use of abacus as a teaching aid, it still continues to be a popular method or rather a fun method used by educational institutions to introduce pre-schoolers and small kids to numbers and basic arithmetic concepts.

Need for Abacus in Modern Times

In this digital age, there could be a section of forward-looking people who assume that digital devices like laptops, tabs, desktops etc., could be well leveraged to introduce arithmetic concepts to small children; however, a simple abacus with its rods and beads makes a more impactful and interesting aid for the kids to play with it and learn as well. Also, it is the best way to teach children with visual disabilities as well. Abacus, for visually challenged children is indeed a blessing in disguise as these children are unable to perform calculations over paper. Further, some studies have shown that children who have learnt performing calculations on abacus are able to do calculations faster when they are grown-ups.
