Best diet to help combat depression and anxiety

A healthy, wholesome diet can do wonders for your body. Having a nutritious meal at regular timings is the need of the day but many times we tend to mess up with our diet, leading to health problems both physical and psychological. To add on to this, the fast life we lead, the stress, the emotional imbalances all add up to depression and anxiety. To counter this, it is advisable to exercise regularly, not to binge eat, meditate and eat at regular intervals. Here are some foods which when added to your diet can help in combating depression and anxiety. These foods provide the nutrients your body needs to fight off inflammation in the brain, which leads to depression. What more, they are easily available.

1.Green Leafy Vegetables: Dark green leafy vegetables help in curbing brain inflammation which is known to cause depression.

2.Walnuts: These are one of the richest plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids, and studies have shown how omega-3 fatty acids support brain function and reduce depression symptoms.
3.Tomatoes: These contain folic acid and alpha-lipoic acid, which are good for fighting depression.
4.Apples: Apples are high in antioxidants, which can help to prevent and repair oxidation damage and inflammation on the cellular level.

5.Mushrooms: These promote healthy gut bacteria. And the nerve cells in our gut manufacture most of our body’s serotonin —neurotransmitter that keeps us sound, hence intestinal health becomes necessary to fight depression.

6.Avocados: These contain mono-saturated fats which help in smooth running of the brain.

7.Low Fat Dairy: Skim milk, yogurt, low-fat cheeses, and other dairy products are rich in calcium, vitamin D, and protein. These are perfect for your body for many reasons, including fighting depression.
